Gaming for the Globe

Frequently asked questions

The behind-the-scenes questions: where the money goes, how ads work, what happens with your data. Questions about playing the games themselves are answered right inside them.

What is Gaming for the Globe?

A one-person game studio from Germany with one pattern: one game, one cause. Each of our mobile games takes on one of the planet’s biggest problems, teaches it through play, and funds the people fixing it. Our first game is Tide Turner — its cause is ocean cleanup.

Where does the money actually go?

Our pledge: at least 50% of each game’s net revenue — or two thirds of profits, whichever is higher — goes to organizations working on that game’s cause. “Net revenue” means what actually reaches us after store and payment fees. The guiding principle: the cause never gets less than we keep.

How does a free game make money for its cause?

Mainly through optional ads: ad networks pay for views, and that revenue flows through the pledge like everything else. Later, purely cosmetic purchases will contribute too. Every ad in our games tells you that it funds the cause.

What are your ad rules?

We publish them — our Ad Policy: no ads at all for your first ten dives, so you learn the game in peace. After that: optional rewarded videos (always clearly marked as videos, always your choice, always with a visible reward) and occasional static between-dive ads you can dismiss instantly — at most after every third dive. Ads only ever give boosts, never game content. And we block advertiser categories that don’t fit the mission, like fossil fuels, gambling, and fast fashion.

Which organizations receive the money?

We will name our partner organizations before launch — along with the formula behind every published number and an annual impact report. Nothing about the money will be a black box.

Can I just donate directly instead?

Please do! A direct donation to an ocean-cleanup organization arrives without any app-store fees in between. The games are an additional channel — they turn play time that would happen anyway into funding — not a replacement for direct giving.

Do you track me?

This website: no cookies, no analytics, no forms. The game (v1): no accounts — your progress is backed up by your phone’s own cloud (iCloud on iOS, Google backup on Android), and we never see it. If we add optional accounts later (for leaderboards and cross-device sync), your existing save migrates over and everything stays opt-in.

Will there be pay-to-win?

Never. Our rule: gear is earned, looks are bought. Anything that affects gameplay is earned by playing; purchases are cosmetic only — and their revenue follows the pledge too.

When does Tide Turner launch — and who is behind this?

Target: fall 2026, for iOS and Android. Behind it: one person in Germany, building everything in public — devlogs, honest numbers, and real gameplay on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and X.
